Another Season Begins – Another Thank You!

29 January 20263 min read

As the new fishing season gets underway, we want to take a moment to say thank you — to the people who make fishing on the Forth possible.

Fish Around the Forth exists because of dedicated individuals working behind the scenes. The club volunteers, bailiffs, permit secretaries, landowners, and fishery managers who enable access and keep operations running. The conservationists and river trusts who work year-round to protect the waterways and their wildlife.

These fisheries are not a given. They are possible only because of goodwill, community, and a shared belief that angling should be accessible, sustainable, and respectful of the rivers and their wildlife. When you buy a permit, you are not just paying for a day on the water — you are supporting countless hours of effort and responsibility that often go unseen, but are consistently valued.

The Season Ahead

Some rivers open on the 1st of February, with many more opening from the 15th of March. Early season fishing brings cold conditions and quiet waters, but it also brings a sense of renewal and possibility that is hard to find elsewhere.

This year, we are committed to supporting the people and organisations that make fishing happen, strengthening connections across the catchment community, improving access opportunities, and protecting and celebrating these rivers for those who come after us.

To every angler heading to the water this season, to those still preparing their gear, and to all who love these rivers — here is to another year of discovery, connection, and river time.
