About This Fishery
About This Fishery
Drumardoch Estate's East Loch Lubnaig fishery offers peaceful and scenic fishing on one of the most attractive lochs in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. The east shore provides excellent access, parking, toilets, camping, food and permit sales, making it especially welcoming for visiting anglers and beginners. Anglers can fish from the bank, from kayaks and canoes with a bank permit, or from boats with the appropriate boat permit. The loch supports brown trout, perch, char and occasional salmon, giving anglers plenty of variety in both species and methods.
Fishing Opportunities
Loch Lubnaig offers unusually varied fishing for a single water. Brown trout and perch are the main target species, with char also regularly caught and salmon possible from a boat further out on the loch. The fishery suits bait, spinning, fly fishing and light boat angling, so anglers can fish with the methods they know best or try something new. Beginners can fish safely and easily near The Cabin, while more experienced anglers can explore quieter bays, deeper drop-offs and the wider loch. Boat anglers can cover the full water and search the river channel and northern lagoons.
Conservation & Stewardship
The fishery is managed with clear permit rules to protect fish, anglers and the wider loch environment. Speedboats, jet skis and large powered craft are absent, helping preserve the calm and natural character of the water. Game anglers must stay in contact with the rod at all times, and fixed rods or set lines are not allowed for trout, salmon, sea trout or char. The fishery also operates within the National Park setting, where access, shoreline care and responsible use of parking, launch areas and public facilities all help protect the loch's special character.
Planning Your Visit
This is an easy fishery to visit, but planning still helps. Decide in advance whether you want bank fishing only or boat access, as separate permits apply. The Cabin is the main hub for permits, food, toilets, parking and local advice, and it is a good starting point for beginners. Bank anglers should check the shoreline and loch height, as some upper areas are harder to reach when water is high. Boat anglers should collect the slipway code when buying a permit and stay aware of swimmers, wind and the 10pm finish time for fishing activities.
