About This Fishery
About This Fishery
Cambusmore Estate offers one of the most highly regarded fly fisheries on the River Teith. Set among magnificent deciduous woodland and managed estate water, it provides privacy, quiet and classic salmon river surroundings only a short distance from Stirling. The fishery is divided into five named beats, effectively fished as four syndicate rotations, with a mix of single-bank and double-bank water. It is known for beautiful pools, excellent facilities and the real possibility of connecting with a large Teith fish, while also offering rewarding sea trout and brown trout opportunities through the season.
Fishing Opportunities
Cambusmore is primarily a salmon and sea trout fishery, but brown trout can provide excellent daytime sport on lighter tackle, especially in lower water and during hatches. The beats offer a wide range of pool types, with some suiting higher water and others fishing best when levels drop. Spring fish, summer grilse, sea trout and autumn salmon are all possible depending on conditions. Fly fishing is strongly preferred, and versatility is important: anglers often switch between salmon, sea trout and trout tactics during the same day. When conditions are right, day rods on Cambusmore are especially exciting.
Conservation & Stewardship
Cambusmore is a carefully maintained estate fishery where access, paths, huts, rod rests and obstructions are all actively managed. The beats are fished with a strong emphasis on thoughtful rivercraft, safe wading and responsible fish handling. Nets are expected to be used, and the estate encourages good practice around fish-holding water and safe movement through the river corridor. Because the Teith is a serious migratory system and the water is limited to booked rods only, the fishery retains a quiet, low-pressure atmosphere that helps preserve both the quality of the angling and the beauty of the beat.
Planning Your Visit
Plan your day around water level, target species and the character of the beat you are fishing. Cambusmore fishes best after a flood as the river drops and clears, though there can also be a short exciting window just before a spate fully colours the water. Felt soles, a wading stick and a life vest are strongly recommended, as much of the fishing involves wading on slippery Teith stones. Bring full fly options for salmon, sea trout and trout, because adaptability is essential here. Day tickets are limited, so booking ahead or checking availability when conditions look right is important.
